Rotary of Atlanta West End Supports Local Arts and Artists with Essential Theatre
Atlanta West End Rotary put its money where its mouth is and not only provided financial sponsorship of the West End's very own Essential Theatre, but turned out to attend the world premier of "Slaying Holofernes" in late July. This provocative play by local playwright, Emily McClain, gave the audience a sobering look at how things have and have not changed in the world over the past 400 years.
Essential Theatre, which performs in the West End Performing Arts Center in Atlanta, hosts a yearly competition for new works by Georgia playwrights. The winning plays are presented in a month long festival, with the two top prize winners receiving a full staging and multiple performances. Rotary of Atlanta West End supports these Georgia artists, and this local arts venue, by promoting the performance, naming a Rotarian to serve on its board (currently our President Nominee Ed Henderson), and by sponsoring the West End Neighbor Night, with free and reduced tickets for West End residents and a reception hosted by Rotarians after the performance.
Supporting the local arts in the West End Community is just one of the things Rotary of Atlanta West End does in this vibrant, historic yet changing community.
