Guest Speaker: Ms. Frances Ellison Dansby
November is Rotary Foundation Month

How to participate in Rotary Foundation Month

Ms. Frances encouraged everyone to look for the latest issue of the magazine we all receive as Rotarians via email or snailmail, for a special issue packed with information about TRF such as the following 3 interesting facts:
  • The Rotary Club of Kansas City, Missouri made the first contribution to the Rotary Foundation in 1917 with $26.50.
  • In 1979, the Rotary Foundation began immunization of 6 million children in the Philippines against polio.
  • The Rotary Foundation has spent over $4 billion on life-changing, sustainable projects since it was founded more than 100 years ago!
Ms. Frances also talked about TRF's mission and its impact worldwide through Rotarian donations.

The Rotary Foundation is a global charitable organization that supports sustainable projects in areas such as health, education, environment, and poverty alleviation.

Ms. Frances summarized a few grants for the 2021-2022 time period. There were 478 District grants, 207 disaster response grants, 1,199 global grants, and 1 programs of scale grant awarded. There are eight areas of focus: Peacebuilding And Conflict Prevention; Disease Prevention And Treatment; Water, Sanitation, And Hygiene; Maternal And Child Health; Basic Education And Literacy; Community Economic Development; Environment.

All AWER members make small donations to the Foundation through our quarterly dues. We also donate in other ways and can even designate how we would like those dollars spent here: https://my.rotary.org/en/donate.
